Rooting allows you to install custom ROMS and run applications that would not normally be able to run as they use services or touch files for which root permission is needed.
I normally root my devices as that allows me to install a hosts file which blocks adverts.

Thanks for the help everyone, I searched Google playstore and found a non-root virtual button app. Phone saved from the bin, new one is now a spare or perhaps for grandson 3I am not a cat (But my friend is)0
