Post office problem

This is my first post and I think this is the right place for this post, if not please be kind. Recently my partner needed to send some dresses back to the seller. She sent them first class recorded deliver however they have not arrived. After speaking to the not very helpful employee, she was told her parcel had been lost. The parcels contents were worth almost £130 but they are saying she can only claim back £50. When she posted them she was not made aware she needed extra insurance nor was there anything in the post office to make her aware of this. the employee she spoke to at The Post Office admitted that they dont make always people aware of this because it would cause longer queues of people and take more time. Does anyone have any advice ?

It's really the customers responsibility to check things like these.

The contents weren't exactly cheap, so it's not unreasonable to expect someone to ask themselves "will they reimburse me if it gets lost?" and either look it up on the Internet or ask in the PO.

If they had incorrectly informed that you would be covered that would be a different story.

Have they definitely not arrived or are you assuming the rather dire 'signed for' update is definitive? I assume you mean 'signed for' as 'recorded' hasn't been a service for a few years now.

If the status is 'we are processing this through the network' or similar it could mean it was delivered and the lazy postie failed to get a signature.

Has the seller told your wife the items haven't been returned?

Sadly, the compensation for SF is £50.
  • Yes it was sent signed for. The status that came up when she checked was that the parcel was still at the Post Office. Hopefully the parcel has already arrived and they simply haven't tracked it.

Signed For isn't tracked. It is a service which shows proof of delivery, on delivery.

Who checked? If it was your wife, then do not worry unless you hear back from the seller that the items haven't arrived. Was the seller a business?
  • The seller is a business, Fingers crossed that the parcel has been delivered and its just the postie failing to get the signaure. Thanks :)
