iPad Mini / iPhone storage space

Hi all
Is there a way that, even though an iPad mini and an iPhone share the same Apple ID/iCloud, you can stop music which has downloaded on the iPhone from downloading on the iPad mini as well (if that makes sense)?
My husband has an iPhone which has quite a bit of music downloaded on it. My young daughter (who is autistic) has some videos part-downloaded on the iPad mini but it's now saying there isn't enough storage to complete the download. When I went into her settings, all my husband's music is showing and it is taking up lots of space. I know that I could just delete all the music from the iPad but am worried this will wipe it from my husband's phone as they use the same Apple ID?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Yes, plug in the iPad, go to the music tab and untick sync music, sync and they should be gone.0

What should I plug the iPad into? I have gone into the music on the iPad and there is no option for sync/unsync music?
Thanks.0 -
Use a PC/Mac running iTunes.0

Ok, I have just plugged my iPad into the PC and opened iTunes and it is now syncing all the music to the iPad? The music was already showing on the iPad and I can't see any option to unsync?0 -
Click on the music tab and uncheck sync music.0

I can't see an "unsync music" tab - is it on the iPad or the PC? Is it under settings?
(Sorry for being dim :-/ )0 -
It's on the PC.
There are tabs for apps, music etc.
Click on the MUSIC tab.
Once on the music tab, uncheck the Sync Music box.0 -

Look for the section - Keep items from being automatically synced (about 1/3 of the page down).0
