Thinking of doing a city break in Barcelona July/Aug. Have a 14yo too
Any tips on places to go/see or any not to bother with. Also any advice on accommodation would be appreciated as plan on putting it together myself rather than a travel agent. Looking to fly from North West -but flexible
- Many thanks

It'll be very Hot n sticky, expensive hotels, crowds and pick pockets/muggers.
October half term would better.
For late summer look at Ryanair flights from LBA/LPL/MAN to less well known places in France such as Carcassone, Beziers, Montpellier, Limoges, Nimes.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Go in the football season and take him to a match.
Although I'm based in the north we flew from Birmingham - Ibis hotel next to the terminal for £35 and Norweigan flights £24 each way including free wifi.
Camp Nou do a stadium tour which, while of interest, doesn't come close to a matchday experience - we paid €37 for match tickets online. The arena next to the stadium also hosts a range of other sports such as basketball or roller hockey. €10 to get in.
Walking around outside Gaudi's cathedral took up a few hours as did wandering aimlessly down Las Ramblas - a real soak up the city street.
A bit of cafe culture and that was our one night trip. Research the airport buses and save a wedge on taxi fares!0 -

Walk through the streets! Go to the sea and the Park! Walk on Las Ramblas.. There is so much to do and it will never ever get boring in Barcelona!0

Best money saving tip is the T10 ticket...

With a 14yr old, I'd probably look for a hotel in the Glòries area, because it gives you lots of cheap options for food at the
Glòries shopping centre and it's on a major intersection of the city buses and trams. Last March I stayed at the Novotel there.

Had a weekend last year, it was great. Tip no.1 don't buy a beer on Las Ramblas without asking the price
you could end up with a 20 euro bill and a beer that will take you all day to drink. The spanish village is good, it is on the 'hop on' tourist bus route, it covers all the the architectural styles of Spain all in one place, think it is called 'Poble Espanyol de Barcelona'. Oh BTW the beach and port areas are good. 'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
For some places you can book online to avoid long queues. this is well worth doing for Sagrada Familia for example.0
