Easyjet Cancelled my flight

Good afternoon

I was due to fly out of Marseille, France, Sunday with my father, however our easyjet flight was cancelled due to the runway issues as Gatwick.

They offered a replacement flight Friday (5 days later), or money back. Along with an offer for hotel accommodation. We had to get back for work so we had to rebook a flight with BA on Monday.

From my reading so far I believe as well as my money back I can also get compensation of €600 a passenger as the replacement flight offered arrived 4 hours after original booked flight.

We has extra costs. We didn’t take up eayjet’s offer for a hotel as the taxi to get to it was equal to the amount of staying in the harbour where we were.

So I have unexpected expenses for a hotel / dinner / breakfast / lunch.

1. Do you agree I can claim from the airline or is this an airport fault? (therefore not easyjets fault) Is there a template letter you can recommend?

2. I have travel insurance x 2 (specific policy for trip and another through Barclays travel pack), what should I be claiming for from travel insurance. If I have double insurance do I claim on both or is this not allowed?

Kind regards

Mike

it wouldn't be 600 euros it would only be 250 euros due to the distance, but if it was the airports fault then you wouldn't be due any compensation, you also wouldn't have had to pay for the taxi to the new hotel, the airline would have also covered meals

claim on travel insurance, you cant claim on two policys for the same event

the compensation element is only if the Airline is at fault, as this was an airport fault, you will not get any compensation.

Did easyjet not offer transportation to the hotel, they normally put on a bus?

Article 8 of EU regulation EC261:2004 details your absolute right to re-routing, easyJet should've put you on an early flight including BA or Ryanair.

Once you cancel, the airline's duty of care ends. Your best bet is probably to get them to reimburse the new flight you booked. As Richard says, you have a right to rerouting.
