Additional help with Welcome finance

I finally got round to ringing the Welcome finance number to chase PPI, firstly I have to say that the process was incredibly simple and the girl on the other end of the phone very helpful.
She managed to trace 4 loans I had with Welcome and told me that 2 of them had PPI.
The 4 loans were
May 2000 £700 (Had PPI)
August 2000 £750 (Had PPI)
August 2001 £3600 (No PPI)
December 2002 £1700 (No PPI)
Out of the two PPI loans however the 1st one was taken on 28/05/2000 and I was then told that their records only go back to 01/06/2000 so nothing is held as to who the insurance was through etc.
I've raised the 2nd one with AVIVA who again were helpful and will get back to me with a decision/payment however they weren't able to help with the 1st.
I'm very wary however that the later (and higher amounts) are down as not having PPI, I remember clearly at the time of the first loan that I was told it had a much better chance of going through if the insurance was taken out, I also know that the financial difficulties I was going through at the time would have meant I'd sign anything in order to get those loans therefore I find it hard (but not impossible) to believe that the same tactics weren't used in the bigger amounts.
Is there anything I can do to question this further? Or are people confident through experience that when they say it didn't have PPI that it's correct?

From memory Yorkshire bank were charging me on average 3 failed DD/ Cheque letters and roughly 15 to 20 days charges per month between 1997 and 2005. In total thats about £250 per month for 8 years. I did nothing about it

If you don't trust the Bank you can send them a Subject Access Request (SAR) letter which will net you everything they've kept on file for you.
As this will cost you £10, it's your choice whether you distrust the bank enough to spend that money even though they've already found no PPI on those loans.0 -

Welcome weren't regulated until February 2003, so even if you had PPI on all of your loans with them, they wouldn't deal with your complaint.
So it doesn't make sense that they would tell you about 2 PPI policies, but not the others.0
