My husband's work van is becoming unreliable and cost us a fortune in repairs recently, so we are looking into leasing or hire purchase. Would really welcome advice and recommendations. Thanks in advance

I would go with the option that allows you to cancel with the lowest fees and shortest time, usually lease wins for this in case you have change of circumstances0

I went though this conundrum last year. Discussed it with my accountant who suggested that all methods of lease / purchase are virtually the same from a tax efficiency point of view. I have bought mine. Part cash and part finance. I looked at leasing but was concerned about the penalties imposed if I went over the agreed mileage limit and was concerned about the costs of the inevitable scuffs and minor dents that seem to always occur.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

As above , I put a big deposit down and financed a 2nd hand van .0

All depends on what you use the van for as well. If you its going to be used for heavy work avoid lease and contract hire, when it goes back the finance company will hammer you. HP would be your best choice then.
New vans can sometimes be cheaper than used but you need to speak to someone in fleet at a dealer, which is hard. Renault for instance can give you Small Business Support. usually low rate "plate rate" finance and additional money off your van. I've had it previously receiving 12% dealer discount and another 10% for registering as a small business0
