Dealing with the Stress.

  • I am incredibly bad at dealing with stress - let myself get so caught up with a situation at work, I ended up having a full blown panic attack there 4 months ago, that I collapsed and an ambulance was called! That was partly to do with a bad relationship with the person I worked with who's quite a nippy sweety and seemed to take great pleasure in making me feel like a nothing. That was really difficult to take when my work took up 65 / 70 hours of my time. Either I was at work, or dreading being there. Even now, if something bugs or worries me, I can't relax until I've dealt with whatever the problem is and quite often that involves a lot of lying awake at night.

I start a new job in a weeks time, and I'm so looking forward to being away from the situation I was in so recently. It's a new start - people there won't know me as the 'girl who was getting a hard time from ****** and ended up collapsing because of it'. I can just be me, a qualified professional desperate to impress!

Perhaps the most relaxing thing I do is heading home to see my Mum. Despite being 31, there's something incredibly comforting about home cooking and feeling close to family when things get on top of you. She lives quite a distance away, so I always feel remote from my problems and worries and completely safe and untouchable when she's around.

My other real salvation is music. I play way too many instruments than I need to, and find strumming a guitar a really soothing way to get through a bad time.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

Sounds like you need a big cuddle:grouphug:.

I'm sure everything will work out in this new job.

There's many sayings to do with worry and stress which i like.

1, worrys like a rocking chair, it might give you something to do, but it wont get you anywhere.

2, think of all the things you've worried about in your life, I bet only 1% of them ever happened.
    why do we do it,

spending money we dont have on things we dont need

Wow some great ideas here guys! I'm not sure about the crying, but the walks and runs sound good. I don't really like telly, and with three hours a day spent in a car there's not much time left after family duties and work. I must admit, I'm spending a large amount of time on the forum as I can't believe just how much helpful info there is. Trouble is my eyes hurt after a while and my joints stiffen up. IS it possible to use a laptop whilst jogging?

You cant laptop wharl jogging, but you can listen to your personal stereo, or mp3 mobile phone. Might i recommend a self help tape !!!, dont start to panic, Tony Robins is who i'm talking about, he did a self help tape called Get The Edge, it worked great for me, It does not change your life any, just improves it, if you know what i mean..

I'm sure you could buy it from ebay for X number of pounds, or you could download it on the internet, you know, try before you buy ;)

The strumming the guitar thing works for me as well. Not very good yet, but I don't care. However, MSE has taken over my time unacceptably in recent weeks, I am gearing up for a full "throw myself into it thing". My worst habit when stressed is eating. I am definitely going to start running instead, eer, when i have saved for a new sports bra!!!!:rotfl:

  • Just came to work, and couldn't stop myself from visiting MSE, I am addicted to this site! (Maybe we should start a new thread on this ..."Why am I addicted to MSE"...)

Hot bath+music works for me when the stress is low/medium, if I am tired or just !!!!ed off about something. Physical exercise is great to detox your mind but it requires some planning. I am a long way from cliffs and countryside, and have to car. The nearest park is actually a cemetry, although with it's own charm but a very lonely place, I don't feel safe there. House work (cleaning/tidying up/cooking) is great self therapy thing.

However when I am in real crisis these things don't help much. Here I found the best way is to talk to someone, your old and trusted friend is the best. For me it is difficult as I am too proud to admit that I have a problem and I am ashamed that I am so weak and need help in dealing with my problems. So I keep it all shut, like a giant pressure cooker, which is going to burst one day. If you are like me or don't have a friend than talk here on MSE, or maybe to Samaritans if it is easier to talk in person.

I don't really stress about money that much, but if I get stressed about other areas of my life, I usually pop on here for a chat - putting how I feel down in writing helps me get things clear in my own head, and getting advice and opinions from people I trust (you lovely DFW lot :A) usually helps me to snap out of it......over the last 12 months it's got me through a pregnancy, a bereavement and a very difficult time with my hubby. I'm so grateful for this site, I can't even tell you! :iloveyou:
