I've just seen a tape worm on my cat, he's a mouse hunter, is there anything I can get without a prescription that you recommend, and how often should I use it?

You can buy Drontal from Pets at Home,Lloyds chemists but much more cheaply from online pharmacies. (Droncit is specifically for tapeworm, but Drontal covers a number of species).
Use about every three weeks.0 -
I can also vouch for how brilliant the Droncit spot-on is against tapeworm. So easy to use.0

It's recommended that you worm quarterly.
There are lots of products available without a prescription. I usually use Panacur granules as they can be mixed in with wet food and generally go unnoticed by my cat who strongly dislikes most other worming products!0
