That's brilliant help thanks. I don't suppose you know where i could find info on this?

I meant to include this in my post but managed to miss it - http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/publications/technical_notes/household-insurance-repairs.html

Case study 4 is the section on matching items

Just having a look through estimates and everything... I got estimates including items which are on offer/discounted (I found a replacement washer with £100 knocked off at curry's and a kitchen I managed to get a lump knocked off), will the insurance pay out at the discounted price or the full price? If they pay out at discounted price there is "theoretically" no guarantee I will get the items at that price and be left out of pocket? I know there is usually an offer on somewhere all the time but this cannot be for certain.
Restoration company is here now taking measurements and all is not looking ideal, didn't realise skirting boards were warping or the concrete floor was so wet. Getting 100% humidity readings in all the woodwork which isn't ideal.

Insurance co's often have deals with suppliers who give them bigger discounts than you'll be able to obtain.

If they pay cash to enable you to go out and buy your own replacement appliances, the payout is often less then if they supply the goods.

Here is an example ombudsman decision - link - where they confirm that the insurer can rely on the exclusion for carpets.

They will give you what it costs to replace them (assuming they do cash settle these bits of the claim) - if you can buy them at the discounted rate, that is what you will get. Failing that, the insurer is likely to replace the items directly for you.

You shouldn't be left out of pocket (for anything covered by the policy) but you also shouldn't make a profit from the claim. Whatever they pay/replace should put you back in the same position you were prior to the claim (subject to exclusions for matching items)
