We're moving, how to get Kitty familiar with new place?

Hi Guys,

We're moving to a new house, waiting for exchange, shall be in a week or two. We're worried about our cat, how to help him get familiar with new envoirnment ? Also, we plan to do some work, and will be some builders around. Don't think Kitty's gonna be happy with it. We're worried that he will get lost in the new place.

What shall we do ? Locking him up indoor for weeks ? .. He's a happy outdoor cat, only back for food, and a hug for a night. He'll go mental if locked indoor..

any suggestions ?

  • Rumour says to keep him in for 2 weeks to look through the windows and to be are of your new house smell and other houses around you as a guide for his future travels.

    Best of luck.

  • Thanks a lot.

keep him in for 2 weeks.. hopefully, we can do that, i think he might go mad within 3 days.. He never likes to stay indoor, not even when he was a kitten. Hopefully everything will go smoothly, Already lots of things to worry about when buying and moving.....

also let him go around and mark all the room amd take some in washed clothes with you to put in all the rooms as this will help leave a familiar smell for him

( by mark i mean just rubbing him mouth ion everything as he wishes
  • we used feliway plug ins when we moved as its meant to be calming

Don't feed him before you let him out, go out into the garden as well. One of mine escaped the 1st day I had him, he was back within 20 mins as it was tea time!!!
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
  • Thanks guys for your tips !!!.... I will try... lock him in for a week or two. Try my best, ..... with the builders doing work in the first two weeks, it would be difficult eventually.. Just hope we can do our best
