DLA reinstatement after hospital discharge?

My neighbour is 73 and has been on DLA Higher rate mobility for many years.
She has been in hospital for 7 weeks and has just heard she needs to tell DWP as the DLA is stopped after 28 days in hospital.
As she's over 65, what will happen when she is discharged? Will the DLA be reinstated or will she lose it entirely and have to apply for Attendance Allowance instead?

The hospital social worker should sort this out for her - it should be part of discharge plan - get her or a family member to have a chat with HSWI am insane and have 4 mortgages - total mortgage debt £200k. Target to zero = 10 years! (2030)0

once she is discharged and she still qualifies it will be reinstated.0

it isn't being applied for though ... it is being reinstated.
after 28 days in hospital, DLA is SUSPENDED, not cancelled.

Thanks for that link. It doesn't mention the rights of a claimant over the age of 65 though.
Social worker thinks my neighbour will need to apply for Attendance Allowance rather than DLA reinstatement but is going to check.0 -

Nooooo don't let the social worker do that. Once given up it cannot be got back. AA does not have any mobility element to it, AA is about care needs only. If the person now has care needs the speak to DLA unit about process. there were a couple of threads on here where people gave up DLA after they were 65 by ill advised people and could not get it back.
When in hospital it is suspended whatever the age, and the reinstated on discharge. If care is needed it might trigger a change to PIP, but not sure about that.0 -
Your neighbour should have her DLA HRM reinstated on discharge from hospital.
If she has now developed care needs she can apply for AA. Do not let a normal social worker do this, ask if a welfare rights officer can attend and do the application.0
