Working whilst on DLA and ESA

Options
Hi, I currently get High rate mobility and Low rate care, I also get ESA

I was hoping to start looking for a part time desk job but not sure how I would get on.

I am worried about if I do get a job and I can't manage it my money might be stopped and I would have to go through the process of having to filling out all the forms again, but I will be struggling in the mean time as most of my dla goes on my car that I need.

I understand I wouldn't get ESA if I got a desk job, which is fine, I don't mind if I get the same money roughly as I get now as I want to be of some use if I can, I am just extremely scared if I am unable to do this on a lengthy basis.

Does anybody have any ideas what I would have to do if I become successful in finding employment? I am not sure of the channels I would have to go through, you hear such scaremongering going off.

Any help would be very much appreciated

Thank You

Working doesn't stop someone getting DLA as as long as the job doesn't contradict why someone is getting it.

Which ESA group are you in as you should be in contact with the job centre if in the WRAG?

  • I was in the support group but got a letter a few months ago saying I'm in WRAG but have not been in touch with anybody from the Job Centre
  • Would the ESA stop the moment I get a job? What happens if I feel I cannot do it?

    Thanks

They should be in touch but there's nothing stopping you contacting them.

If you are not able to continue with a job within 12 weeks your claim would restart linked to the old one. Have you considered permitted earning to test your ability

  • What is permitted earning? Thank you
  • I may have a job in a local bookmakers where I can sit down but it will only be for 4 hours maximum as my back may get extremely stiff and painful, so it will be for 16-20 hours a week. Does anybody know what I would get including credits as I don't necessarily want more money that I'm getting now, I wouldn't like to think I am getting less than I do at the moment as i don't get that much. I just want to be a bit more happier as I have been quite alone since falling ill, and feel like I want to live life like a normal person as much as I can do, like meet more people. I guess I'm just scored I can't do it but willing to give it a go :)

Have a look here for info about permitted work.
