3 for the price of 2 t&c's

I recently placed an order on the boohoo website. At the time, they had a 3 for 2 offer on, stating that the cheapest item would be free. I ordered a total of 9 items, but didn't like them all, so ended up returning 6 of them. I was expecting to end up paying for the two most expensive items, but instead I received no refund at all for three of the items I returned, as they were the ones they considered free under the offer and I've ended up paying for all three items I kept. I feel a little cheated, but now just wondering if this is completely above board, as I think it's slightly misleading that you only get the offer if you keep the entire order. I also wonder, if I had kept the three cheapest items instead - would they have let me keep them completely free..?
Would be grateful for any advice.

Then perhaps make that point to them? And also that when you ordered, they probably gave you the cheapest 3 items free rather than allowing you to group them.

Are you still within the timeframe to return? Have you contacted them at all about it and if so, what have they said?
