I did almost the same thing but for the reasons you describe, decided not to inset the TV. I did leave a recess behind it to accommodate the wall mount and power though, so the TV can go right up to the wall.
That seems like a much safer option. That said, it has been about 8 years since I upgraded my TV.

I have a fireplace below mine and a surround sound centre speaker above!

I have always thought this is a good idea and makes a nice clutter free wall, but one thing has always bothered me about it.

What happens when the TV breaks or is upgraded?

I wouldn't like too much gap around the TV frame, but it means that if I wanted to replace the TV I would be restricted by size, or I would have to rip out the wall and make good again. What have your kids done?

I'm working from memory but I'd say they have left about 50mm all round, main reason being that they have concealed lighting to both sides and above and some light needs to escape for effect.
They are led strips so should last plus the TV can always be lifted down to attend to blown units.

Given that they about 46" units at present, the space would still probably accept up to 48" frameless.

Also because the edge is open, the TV recess could be opened up a few more inches with a jigsaw so no real issue for a bigger TV
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

We have this. I don't know how to upload photos, though. Ours is against red wallpaper. It fills the space brilliantly and (I think) looks fab. Gets lots of comments so not bad for the price.

Nothing, we wall mounted our TV to free up some floor space and keep it away from little hands!
