hi there, i am hoping that somebody can give me some advice here. I used to be going to derby university and I had taken out a student account at that point, but at that point I had gone overdrawn on that account, I also had a current account with abbey and barclays, with £100 overdrawn on each of them acconuts, but until about 2 years ago I have paid everything back but due to being overdrawn and panicing about repayments at the start i think my credit history has really taken a big beating from. now i have changed courses to somewhere more local to where i live and now am in my final year... i have come to the moment where i need to get a student account to help me out... i have no current accounts no cards no credit cards but just a nationwide cash builder book... i have had difficulty applyin for student accounts from hsbc, rbs, halifax... please help me understand what i should do now

Go to Nationwide and open a basic flexaccount, or the Natwest basic account is good, you don't need an overdraft or a student account. Im a student and im managing on a basic bank account without overdraft (as I have a poor credit history). You should be getting a large student loan payment when you enrol in a few weeks - a student loan can be paid into any account, it doesnt need to be a student account. If you are in serious need of money then you need to apply to your student support services for financial aid, ie a hardship grant/loan.0

@ Wolfsbayne ... I think yes I will go to Nationwide and open up myself a basic flex account, I just hope I will be allowed to open one up.
@ CALPTON ... I do not know what my credit record says, I do not know how to check that.
I ideally would like to get some sort of account where I can get abit more money to hel pme through my year alot more easier, my last 2 years that I've been at uni I have been struggling to cope, so bad where I've not even been able to socialise with my other classmates.0
