    I'm interested in your post because I find myself in the exact same position.
    Wooden draining board - recipe for diaster. I was in for 2 yr 3 months and always wiped off any standing water but it still blackened.
    LL says he needs to replace the WHOLE of the worktop.
    No mention in tenancy agreement about oiling etc else I would have. My partner even wondered about sanding it down and oiling it but didnt want to do anything that could be seen as 'damage' if it didnt restore it perfectly.

    What was the outcome of your case?

    Don't hold your breath. 11 posts nearly two years ago. Sorry. But some good idea on this thread. LL can't expect the full replacement cost as he doesn't get new for old (called betterment). I would imagine he might get repair costs only (sanding and reoiling) not replacement.
