is it legal - Cash reward person to person

Hi All,

my question is is it legal to received cash reward, person to person for personal service?

current situation, let's say one person can help get very well paid permanent job to other person. person which "getting" a job happy with everything. there is no involvement regarding employer , employer not involved anyhow or in anyway into this reward,,this more like - "selling information" or assisting with help when getting a job and this is more like "middle man" service - it is legal at all to someone receive such hand to hand, cash reward in such situation? as there is no intentions to brake a law. Possible cash reward is in 4 figures.

Thanks in advance.

By "person to person" and "hand in hand" reward, what exactly do you mean?

Do you just mean is it okay for you to pay someone to find a job for you? Or a bonus on top of the contracted rate? Or do you mean cash in hand without declaring it as income?

I'm thinking there must be more to it than just asking if you can pay someone for finding a job for you - after all, if it was illegal then every single agent of a celeb would be breaking the law as would any employment agency.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

If i said to you i can get you xx job and you decided to give me a grand as a thank you present . Then that's legal but i have to declare as income .
If i said you give me a grand and i will get you xx job then i would seek qualified legal opinion .

    Hi All,

situation is - i been offered great job in terms of annual income - sadly at the moment my situation within personal life it is - too many difficult adjustments needs to be done in my personal life to take this job..i turned it down, but i have a chance to recommend someone on my behalf.

well as i see - person which will get this job, will benefit after all with very nice annual income, so me, naturally as for such great favor - we agreed on award which is in 4 figures , i granted with all details and everything as in real, this is "my position" been offered on a table - that's it - so my worries, as i am not recruitment agent and don't have any sort license, am i in tiled to cut this deal as all..?

what's the minimum reward amount when you need to inform HM Revenue & Customs?

    thank you in advance

Of course you can legally accept the "cash reward" but you are also legally obliged to declare this as income to the HMRC and possibly pay tax on it.

There is, of course, very little trail of evidence, so if they paid you from post-tax income and you all kept shtum, who's to know?

OP isn't running an employment agency. He's just putting the name of an acquaintance forward for a job that had previously offered to him. IF the acquaintance gets the job he would like to share in his good fortune by gifting OP a sum of money.

AFAIK there is no requirement to inform HMRC of monetary gifts received.
