Advantis credit letter...id fraud?

Just had a letter from these people asking if I was the same Philip..... who used to live at.......
Now I still own that property, but it's been rented out for many years. I last over there 14 years ago.
I pay all my bills on time and cannot figure out what this debt could be about, unless someone is using my ID.
Any advice what to do. I am very reluctant to phone these people as reading various comments they do not have a good reputation.

One phonecall tends to resolve it and is sure quickest way to figure out exactly what is going on. If you are reluctant to do that you can send them a letter instead asking to prove the debt.

Letter comes with the "disadvantage" of confirming new address with them (some consider this as end of the world, I digress) as current contact for you. While a phone call via, for example, skype leaves no specific details like your current phone number or address. Although on the phone call you will have to confirm the old details in order to be able to speak about the case (which is good, you wouldn't want them to blab about your finances to random people) you are not obliged to give out your current details, all you have to do is confirm the old ones.
