painting laminate board

you know the horrible, brown laminate board that looks like wood people put up in 70's?

well have kitchen that has this on walls, the rooms is being demolished in a few months for extension anyway but want to cover this up?

can i paint it?

i tried a couple of coats of white but it seems to e sucking it up and turning it a little yellow?

would a darker colour do?

i considered a big tin of white satin (its only a small kitchen)

any ideas?

i know this is a dodgy job btw but its just in mean time til new room gets built.

oh can you by new laminate sheets to cover old laminate worktops to glue over? like heat resistant sticky back plastic?

like i said bodged job in meantime..lol

I've got a tin of International Melamine Primer and this did the job with some wardrobes that I wanted changed but couldn't afford to. The satinwood paint that I covered the primer with has lasted without chipping for some years now.

You'd be welcome to share my tin of paint if you're in Gloucestershire!

I guess that with a proper primer the finish would last longer. It depends on how long you want to keep it or how much wear it's likely to get.
