First time buyer - Buying a new build

Hi everyone :)

Me and my boyfriend have put a reserve down on a 3 bed end of terrace house on the Redrow lancaster mews estate in York. It's our first house and are going to be using the help to buy scheme.

We've been doing some research and hoping we could find a list of some of the extras they charge for as we don't yet have access to the myredrow where you can add everything.

We've heard they're quite over priced so unsure if to sort things ourselves, like the turf, carpets, fitted wardrobes etc.

We also read a lot of things like they won't do any incentives due to us using the help to buy. We know they won't budge on the price of the house due to it being in such a popular area so if we backed out it would be sold fast.

Just wondering if anyone on here could give us a bit more info on their pricing for extras :)

Thank you!

  • Hi Sophie :)

I haven't bought a Redrow home, so I'm afraid I can't help with advice about their generosity with added extras. I have, however had my eye on one for quite a while, so have stalked their website quite a bit. You don't need to have reserved one of their homes to be able to get a My Redrow account. If you go onto their website, you can register, choose the site you like the look of and 'favourite' it. Choose the house model/plot that you like and 'favourite' that too. When you go back to your account, click on the house and then go into 'what's included', this will give you a list of rooms, which will tell you what is included and how much the upgrades are. The upgrades are very expensive and if they don't throw your carpets in, I'd probably get them done independently and purchase my fitted wardrobes online.

I have to say that Redrow's website is by far the best one I've come across for information!

    Good luck!
  • Hello!

    Thank you for your reply!

Ooh what type have you had your eye on? Ours is called a belgrave, it seems to be new as we can't find any like it online!

Ah yeah I think we have that login from when we registered our interest but we can't access all the prices yet we had a look :/ I think the sales guy said its once the help to buy people contact him!

    Thank you :)
  • Hi Sophie :)

We've had our eye on a Windsor https://www.redrow.co.uk/houses/the-coppice-leegomery/windsor but there's a David Wilson estate going up in an area that suits us better, so we're looking at a 4 bed there instead ;)

Your sales guy is fibbing you lol. You can view them online, but you need to be able to view one of the models that you're purchasing (doesn't matter which plot number). Maybe he means that once your HTB comes back, you'll be able to actually order your upgrades through your 'My Redrow' account, but I can definitely view what upgrades are available and how much they are on my favourited list. I had a quick peek at your chosen estate but there doesn't appear that there are many homes available - is it a brand new estate? It could be that the Belgrave is known as a different name on other estates - we were looking at a home called the York, but on your estate it's called the Montpellier (although that could be because your estate is IN York and that would be weird lol). Maybe you could favourite the home that IS available on your estate, so that you can check out roughly how much they're charging for upgrades ;)

  • Hi Kerry!

Oooh yes those one's are lovely! We have some david wilson ones being build in york but they are really expensive as they're in the centre at the race course.

I've just logged on and saved one of the houses on the development we are buying on and now can see some of the prices! Thanks for letting me know :) and yeah it's brand new, we got an early bird house so they've not yet released everything, and i've had a look on instagram trying to find other properties that might be similar but not having much luck! Haha

Thanks for your help and all the best with your house hunting! x
