bought item online - only 3 month warranty

I bought a set of high quality new LED bulbs from an EU business selling on eBay at the beginning of this year. It was £100 for x10 so was quite expensive. The other day one of the bulbs failed after being installed for only 2 months (I'd had it sitting in packaging for a couple of months). So I contacted the seller for a replacement but he told me they only give a 3-month warranty from date of purchase. (item description doesn't mention warranty so I'd assumed 12 months.)

Do I have any recourse for a replacement? I thought all businesses needed to give a 12-month warranty but maybe that doesn't apply if it's a bulb, or a business outside of the UK?

Many thanks :)

You need to read MSE's Consumer Rights guide.
You have statutory rights that extend beyond any warranty offered by the seller.

All sellers and manufacturers can decide the term of their warranty/guarantee.
In fact no manufacturer or seller has any obligation to offer any warranty/guarantee at all.

Maybe The UK European Consumer Centre can help you.
  • Thank you for the helpful info. Will contact the seller again and see what we can agree on.
