Rac Key cover

Options
Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of rac key cover, if it's any good etc.

Also does anyone know if you lost your main key but had a spare would they payout for a new key? I have heard some companies only pay out if you loose both your main and spare key.

Thanks

Read the T&Cs. I dont see the point of key cover if it doesnt cover a single lost key.
Up to £1500 of cover for lost, stolen or broken car and house keys. We'll cover the cost of replacing locks, keys, re-programming immobilisers and alarms. We also cover locksmith charges.
A Key Replace claim cannot be made within the first 14 days of joining. Broken Keys are not covered if the cause is wear and tear.

I nearly took out this add-on cover but then decided against it. However, from the terms I saw at the time (sorry I don't have time to re-read them again now), they did seem to cover single key loss/theft if there was a consequential security implication for the vehicle.

In that case their remedy would be to replace the lost key + costs of removing the lost key from the car's computer.

Extra £20 for key cover? Get a spare key yourself for less?

I can add/remove keys myself with a simple procedure, Fords can do this quite easily its in the handbook. Some other cars can also be done without special tools.

Some keys though have to have the car re-programmed and/or re-coded don't they?
I have friends with Porsche and Mercs and if they lost a key it would prove very costly. So not always a simple case of popping to Halfords for replacements. This kind of cover seems good value to me if you have this kind of key.

Yes often the keys are coded but quite often you can add more keys yourself providing you have the master key or a full set of keys.

I can add and remove keys for my car, the instructions are in the handbook.

Plenty of specialists out there who can add keys to your car also. The trick is getting it done BEFORE you need it. You can negotiate to get another key made if your not in dire need of it now. But getting one after the fact you pay the price or dont get it.
