Using smart tv in unsmart mode

Urgently need a new tv and they all seem to be smart tvs. Our son is pressing me to get one and he will set it up connected to our home router. Smart tv displays are just as good as any other displays, providing you buy a decent tv rather than a basic one.

Its also easier to have the smart functions operating from the same remote.
