It appears that many people now buy a Flexible expanding hose (also know as A Magic Hose) which are available in various lenghts in place of the trading more rigid hose. It does seem to be more practicable and makes storage much easier. I have seen them advertised for as little of £10. They look to be rather flimsy so do they have a short life span What are the advantages and disadvantages between these hoses and the traditional hoses.

They are absolutely useless & thats being polite !!
The pipe, which actually carries the water inside the fancy looking flexible outer, is made of very very thin rubber type material that perishes really quickly.
Most useless product ever.
Sorry0 -
I bought a branded one at Christmas and it's popped already.0

There are many cheap copies of the original hose like this, and they are typically described as 'useless.'
The more expensive one may last somewhat longer, but it's been around for a while now, and if it were that good, so many people wouldn't be writing critical reviews of it on Amazon.0 -
I read that the plastic also leaches something into the water which will kill any fish if you use these hoses to top-up ponds.0

Have you heard the saying 'buy cheap, buy twice'?0

Are any of the products from tv shopping channels any good?!

i was going to buy one as needed 50m to water source, but read the reviews and changed mind, many many people say they just break in no-time.
ended up buying 50m yellow 4 wall hose or something for like £20 off ebay,
with hindsight, i wish i would have bought a water-butt and bucket/can...0 -
I bought an original X hose and it's been fine. It expands and contracts really well and has lasted being used almost every day in the last four weeks, and beforehand too.
I've never had a conventional hose though I used to water the garden of a friend who did, it was really difficult to unroll and then re-roll - but that's just me!0 -
Cheap hose is really stiff and therefore hard to unwind.0

After years of wrestling with a conventional hose and reel I got a spiral one. Much less trouble, coils up fairly small and fits into an old chimney pot so it's hidden between waterings. It was only a few quid from Home Bargains.0
