What is your budget? I spent many years buying cheaper ones, but have moved back to better quality ones and currently have an HP OfficeJet Pro 6700 and it seems to be excellent after a few years and a house move.

Check the capacity or yield of any ink cartridges - I did get a cheap Epson and it worked ok - ink cartridges were very cheap too, but the cartridges had a low capacity and ran out quickly. Sometimes you only get given the capacity in ml and sometimes you get the yield (e.g. 1200 pages at 5% coverage).

I just checked two brands and one came in at 250 pages per cartridge and the other 1200 so quite a big difference.

It has always been a common trick to advertise "the cheapest ink cartridges" by making them tiny.

Probably best to get a shortlist of devices then go to an ink selling website and check the specifications of the replacement ink cartridges for each one.
