Dishwasher

Hi

I live in Ealing, London and would like to get a dishwasher installed. What are your thoughts on how much this could cost and the feasibility of the two positions I'm thinking of please? :money:

1st choice:
To the left of the oven (narrow dishwasher). The cupboard and drawer just have plates and cutlery at the moment. It is 87cm high x 53cm wide x 58cm depth

2nd choice:
Under the sink (short dishwasher). I'm guessing the piping under the sink would make it a no go.
43cm high x 61cm wide x 58cm depth. It's possibly got another cm or two in height.
The 'cupboard' to the right of this is actually a freezer so that isn't an option.

What are your thoughts on how much this could cost and the feasibility of the two positions I'm thinking of? Thanks!

  • I'd go for left of oven, otherwise you're faced with moving dishwasher to get at any under sink plumbing, even assuming you can get a reasonably sized dishwasher to fit under sink. You'd need to:
    Run the cold inlet and waste pipes behind the units to the right of the under sink cupboard;
Break into the ring main and loop a cable to a properly fitted socket behind the dishwasher. (Don't
be tempted to use an extension lead, and you can't extend the cable on a new dishwasher without
    invalidating the warranty)
To do the above you'll need to remove the back of the drawer unit, and you might have to do the same behind the fridge freezer.

Is there anywhere else the freezer could go? Where is the fridge?
Having it next to the sink would make it easier/cheaper to fit I would have thought

I fit kitchen for a living. It wont go under the sink. A 450mm wide dishwasher will go next to the oven. You will however, Loose access to the corner cupboard an the unit will certainly have to be majorly adapted. You will have to route pipe work through the existing units and will need a power supply. To get the unit taken out, and cut up, pipework, a new socket, you will probably be looking at £300 - £400.
Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
  • The most ideal option would be to re-site the freezer and put the dishwasher in its place. Would it fit into the unit next to the oven, or anywhere else in the kitchen?

You could try sitting a tabletop dishwasher underneath the pipework for the sink, a quick google suggests that they would fit into those dimensions but you would still need to get power to it, and their capacity is pretty rubbish - you'd be as well hand washing!

Putting it next to the oven would really be the only option if you want to keep the rest of the kitchen in its current configuration, and as phill99 said it won't be cheap!

    This answer is spot on
If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands
