How to find out if land can be built on

Hi,
I'm looking at buying a flat in a new build. A big part of the flats' value (to us) comes from the large view. I am trying to find out what the process is in finding out if the land directly next to the balcony can be built upon - blocking out the view.
All I have so far is that the council owns the land and there are no current planning applications.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Thanks

    And that's about all you'll ever be able to know. Land is being built on now that, a few years ago, was thought would never get planning permission.

    There is a certain irony in buying a flat in a new-build and wanting to ensure there won't be any other new-build next to you...

    The only other thing you can do is to get a hold of the Local Plan from the council.

    I mean something like this;

    The local plan might help.

    If the land is designated as 'Sites of special scientific interest' or some other designated area, then development is unlikely
  • Hi all, can anyone help us on the distance another large block would have to be from this one? Or point us in the right direction as looking at legislation on this?

    As the land isn't huge I wonder what the rules are on the gap that would have to exist between a new hypothetical property

    Thanks :)

    The rules are different depending on which local council the property is in. There's no national legislation....it's all local.
    :footie:
    :p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • This should tell you everything you need to know. You will have to scroll down for the measurements.

    Hope this helps
