Missold sainsburys energy

In December 2015 we signed up with sainsburys energy for gas and electricity. The price was good, and we'd get nectar points (which was the deal maker for us).

Roll on to yesterday and we received a letter from sainsburys with an extortionate bill - after a phone call it turns out the bill was high because they overestimated.

However, when I enquired about our nectar points it turns out sainsburys stopped giving them out on January 1st (less than a month after we signed up).

We weren't notified and had I known we wouldn't have continued with them. We're locked into a contract now and we have a bitter taste left in our mouths.

Just wondering if anyone might have some advice?

Hi - welcome to the forum. You need to look carefully at Sainsbury's terms and conditions for your Nectar points:

    Suspension/Termination; Closure of the Scheme

We will tell you if we decide to do this.

    24. If we suspend the link between your Nectar Account and your accounts with us, you will not be entitled to collect or redeem Points with us for the duration of that suspension.

    25. We reserve the right immediately to suspend or cease to issue Points and/or to supply Rewards if it becomes unlawful for us to do so, if theScheme is suspended or terminated, if our right to issue Points or supply Rewards is suspended or terminated for any reason or if Nectar ceasesto trade. In such circumstances, we will post a notice on sainsburysenergy.com/nectar as soon as reasonably possible.

You are entitled to receive points up until the date on which the Scheme was changed. Sainsbury's will probably want to estimate the amount of energy consumed based on an actual meter reading.

Personally, I doubt that you have a case for mis-selling.

PS Putting Nectar points to one side. You really need to give the supplier frequent meter readings if you want to avoid future bill shock.

The Nectar points given were tiny. What is happening now is throughout the year emails will be sent offering spot prizes and possibly ways to get extra Nectar points too. These will be worth more than what would have been given for energy points previously.

OP its unlikely you are locked into a contract but it may cost you to leave, We are in the process of leaving them after 8 months and the £30 penalty per fuel is well worth paying to get rid of them.
