O/S Daily Thread for Sundat 12th June 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning everyone.

    Thanks for the thread HH.

The gentle rain arrived here in the afternoon, first rain in almost three weeks so can't complain. I got the scratches on my car polished out, it was like watching magic. The chap put dome cream on the long scratches, across all four panels, and used a large electric polishing head and they just disappeared.

Then I did a little light shopping on the way home.

Tru - you were right, NCIS was good last night, I really enjoyed it.

I have no plans for today yet, the weather looks as if it may be more rain coming and there's lots of white cloud out there. My diversion tactics yesterday meant I managed to avoid the pile of clothes on the spare bed even though I fully intended to tackle it. I've kept the door open so I can see it just to make me feel guilty!

    Happy Sunday everyone.

    Morning all

We have rain, we are on a yellow weather warning, so give it a couple of days to come down from the hills and we could be on flood alert.

I cleared the rubbish from the garden yesterday and got 4 loads of washing dry and the garden needs the rain so that's good.

I found a box of card making supplies that I'm selling and a bag of felt that I'm passing on to the local nursery, today I will sort more yarn for the care homes.

I also have filled my bin and recycling boxes up again.

Hubby has had a couple of bad days but was slightly better yesterday, he went for an hours nap at 4 o'clock and is still asleep now!

Hopefully he will have a lazy day watching the GP Qually that I recorded for him and the GP when its on. He's on the late shift again next week so it means long days for me, but hopefully they are up to a full team tomorrow so it should be easier,

I best go and feed the fish, they are glaring at me from the tank.

    Have a good day all.

    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and I are enjoying first cuppas of the day. Boys still in their pits.

Dinner last night was HM chicken in a black bean sauce, HM egg and veg fried rice, and noodles - all eaten and enjoyed. I only used 1 x packet of 2 huge chicken breasts to feed all of us and a little pack of bacon lardons in the rice dish, no-one moaned about lack of meat - which normally DH would do. This leaves a pack of pork loins in the fridge, so we'll probably have those for tomorrow nights' dinner with mash, veg and gravy. I haven't planned very well, and need to pick up some more cooked meat on my way home from work tomorrow night. I got the base for the cheesecake made last night - I need to make the filling shortly and then I'll make the fruit kebabs, I want to get the pack ups etc done also, so I'm not running around at last minute when we get back later. I did get the ironing done yesterday too.

    Have peaceful Sundays' everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone,

Wet and dull here but hey we are on holiday :j

Had a smashing day yesterday, went to a book barn which the lovely MrsLW recommended. So many books, all at a £1each, thought of you Gers and how much you would love it. I was in complete seventh heaven and consider myself to have been remarkably restrained at only getting five :). This included a lovely book called the Thrifty Decorator which has some fab hints and tips.
We had lunch at a farm shop and then took a drive around, including going through Cheddar Gorge but it was heaving I guess being a Saturday so will go back during the week and stop off for a better look.
The weather forecast for the week isn't great but we won't let that stop us, we are British after all and used to being rained on :rotfl: have earmarked a nice pub for sunday lunch today. The cottage is comfortable although after the farmer had been to fertilise the field right next to it yesterday morning the ambience shall we say was interesting!! Still we live in the country and know these things happen.
Tru Bill isn't too bad thank you, when I went down to the yard on Thursday last thing had a chat with the owner and did say that what he needs is 24/7 turnout rather than being stabled at night, which is something she cannot offer as has to manage her grazing. Apparently the new girl who helps out some days is looking for a field companion for her youngster so that might well be where we go. It's a shame as I enjoy the company etc at the yard but need to do what's best for Bill.

Have a good day everyone, take care folks x

It started raining properly about 4pm yesterday and is still going, gentle summer rain but the type that gets you very wet.

Went for a longish walk yesterday, stopped at the car boot sale which was rubbish then called at Aldi to get a couple of bits and bobs. After that I sat and watched TV - loads of programmes I had missed during the past couple of weeks when the weather was so good.

Going for a swim in a bit then may take a trip to the nearest Primark for new white socks, mine are not very white! Apart from that nothing planned, another lazy day.

Hope you all have a good Sunday. Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Had lunch with friends in London yesterday. We were in Mayfair so I got the underground to Oxford Circus then walked down. There were some people on the tube train having a party, complete with cakes and sarnies as a protest to the Queens party today. They want a republic - good luck with that one! London was very busy as it was Trooping of the Colour. Lots of extra security about too.

Lunch came in at £50 a head for 3 courses plus wine. I thought that was quite reasonable until DH told me he'd got the weekly shop at Aldi for £54 for 5 of us :D

Still had a muggy headache when I got home at 8pm, luckily it's gone now and whady'a know, it's raining now so that was obviously me predicting the weather!

Off to see family today - mums birthday and also my aunt (sisters born 4 years apart exactly). Aunt is 70 so I am getting her an afternoon tea voucher for Dobbies to enjoy at her leisure. Have to tackle the ironing pile before I go though :(

Speky - hope you had a good time at the wedding.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

It's been raining here earlier but it's brightened up for a bit. Managed to have a lie in till 7.30 and then had a shower so I feel clean and fresh. I'm glad it's stopped being so hot as I was finding it very difficult.

Hubby is up and made me a cuppa and the girls are all still snoring away in their beds. I have a Tesco delivery coming in an hour or so and it has all the stuff for a barbecue but I think we are going to have to cook everything inside instead. I don't mind, I would rather be inside anyway.

I managed with the help of DD's 13 and 15 to clean and clear our bedroom. I'm sure that is why I slept much better last night. I am ashamed to say there was still boxes of Christmas presents to be put away. Anyway, it looks fab now with room to walk around. I think the bathroom will be next on the list as there are old empty bottles of shower gel etc that need to be chucked out. I think I will ask DD16 to make a start on it when she gets up.

I have decided to go to a different SW group as there is one just down the road from us and I won't have to pay out for taxis. Hubby has said he will walk me there and back and take Max out in between times. It's still on a Tuesday but in the evening instead.

I hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

    Morning all,

Pouring with rain here and has been most of the night, dd still in bed so all peaceful here, I have stripped the bedding and got it in the wm although it might have to go in the TD today.

Evie was not sick again yesterday, but was very anxious to get outside and eat grass this morning also her tummy is gurgling so I think something has upset it, she seems fine in herself though.

Wont be going far today due to the rain, I think DD wants to clear out her book case and get rid of it to make more room so I will help her with that, I also have to do an online shop for next week.

Dinner will be some chicken kebabs I found in the freezer with some garlic roasted potatoes and salad.

    Have good days all xx

I finally have a new chromebook so I'm back :j:j:j

I have two dds and a son in law staying over as dd and her husband just moved into their first new house yesterday. We had some bacon sarnies for breakfast and will go and see their new house later.

Kitchen is now plastered and painted a nice shade of grey which I really like but have only had a tap, a microwave and an electric lidded frypan for the last week. I am hoping that the flooring goes down tomorrow and have chosen a nice bleached oak which looks clean and modern. The house is still in a state of chaos but a lot has been done- two new bathrooms , two bedrooms knocked into one master bedroom downstairs and the kitchen.

Youngest dd is planning on coming to stay for the weekend in two weeks so am hoping there will have been a lot of progress by then. Once the kitchen is done I can start unpacking boxes and deciding what stays and what goes. The same goes for the bedroom and the living room. Now I have computer access I managed to order a really nice mirror for the living room.

It has been lovely to have most of the family around and hear the friendly banter and laughter. Older dd might be popping round tomorrow to use our internet for work and builders will be here too. I can't wait to have a proper kitchen and get things sorted out.

    Hugs to all.
