Finding Out Who Someone Is On Facebook?

Hi,

Someone I know has been having trouble with someone on Facebook using a fake profile to cause them nothing but grief, spread lies, be nasty, cause trouble, hound the person they're with etc. Basically making life hell and they won't even add their new partner to their Facebook because of this person. This has been going on for years.

They have been reported to Facebook and the police with nothing done.

I know that an IP logger like Grabify could get their IP address right? But that would only give you the location of the server wouldn't it? Not the persons actual location?

Is there anyway at all to try and find out who this is etc?

We just want it all to stop so don't have to live in fear of what the idiot is going to do or say next.

Thanks.

A court order would be required to force the ISP to release IP address details to the police.

So no, an IP address by itself won't prove anything if the police aren't involved.

I'm not sure I understand the issue, though. If someone's bothering you on Facebook, can't you just unfriend them or block them. (I'm not overly familiar with Facebook.)

If the person is bothering someone in real life, then report them to the police. It doesn't matter what Facebook profile they're using. (Or am I missing something?)

Get the person to change all their security settings on Facebook to the strickest settings so nobody who isn't their friend can see the information on their profile, also get their partner to do the same. Then get them both to block the account. If they make a new account then block it without replying to any messages. They will soon stop with these game if you don't acknowledge them.

After they block the account how quickly do they make a new one and message them again?.

Leave Facebook. Live without it. Believe it or not, it is possible to do this.

If they're writing insults on the only whiteboard in town, take the whiteboard away.

You don't have to leave FB - just make sure the unpleasant person doesn't have access to your page.

I keep contact with family around the world on a day-to-day through FB and get a lot of pleasure from keeping up with what people are doing.

If someone chooses not to use Facebook then fair enough but i definitely don't think they should not be able to use it just because of other people causing problems.

If you started being harassed by a person on this forum and they were creating multiple accounts and posting information about you and sending you abusive PM's would you simply be happy to just stop using the forum?

This is the kind of cr4p that happens when people are so self important that they think the whole world needs to see everything they do on Facebook AND/OR adds every random person that wants to be a "friend", purely in order to be seen as having half a million friends.

I know it was a hypothetical question, but my answer is yes, in the same way I turn over / off TV etc if I do not like the programme

But this isn't a case of the person simply not liking Facebook, they have someone who is deliberately misusing it to harass them.

A better analogy would be that you like the TV program but you have a lodger who is misusing the TV and has intentionally broken the speakers so you can't enjoy it. Would you simply stop watching the TV or would you stop the lodger doing it?
