I've been wanting to get my hands on this great perennial for a long time and NONE of the chain places - Homebase, B&Q etc. - seem to have it.
The ones available off ebay will turn out to be, you can bet your cotton socks, miserable stunted things which have died en route.
Does anyone happen to know a reliable source of decent size root stocks of this plant?
Would be very grateful for any help at all.

Depends on whether you want the basic white, wild type, ox eye daisy, in which case, buy some seed and for most soils, there will be no stopping it!
You need to go to a proper, non-chain garden centre- I have a yellow one I got from my local place (as a reduced, past its best job) and it's establishing nicely.
I also have a patch of bog-standard wild type that was dug up from my parents' patio where it had seeded.
Or try places online like Hayloft, Waitrose garden etc0 -
The chap on the plant stall on my local market has been helpful, checking his supplier for the roses I wanted. Worth an ask.0

Wait until autumn and buy some online. A lot of nurseries will have them, just not B&Q0

bought mine from homebase or b&q (cant remember which) about three years ago. Since its been in its been great. I divided it this year as it was getting quite big but its been really reliable. Bear in mind that most sheds might not sell it yet as it is not in flower quite yet (well mine isnt yet)Even a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. We are indeed drifting into the arena of the unwell.0

You'd be suprised. I bought a hydrangea 'masja' off ebay. It was only in a tiny pot. Cost me about £2. Its one of the healthiest plants we've got in the border nowEven a stopped clock tells the right time twice a day, and for once I'm inclined to believe Withnail is right. I bought a collection of these from Hayloft plants recently and they were very good quality: http://www.hayloft-plants.co.uk/Search.aspx?search=Leucanthemum0

There were indeed several varieties in my local non-shed garden centre today, all looking healthy with a good number of buds about to burst0
