Travel between Basel Airport and Lucerne

Anyone travelled to Lucerne before? It appears the most cost efficient way of getting to and from hotel to Basel Mulhouse Freiburg airport is bus from Basel airport to station then a train. Anyone done this before and if so is this recommended?

That sounds like a good idea. Swiss trains are famously efficient but there isn't a station at Basel Airport so you need to get into the city first.

Driving is probably quickest (traffic dependent, and you'd have to factor in the time to rent a car). The train will certainly be efficient, and it's not too expensive. I don't know if there are other cheaper (probably bus) options.

I've been to Lucerne a few times, but have only done the journey from Zurich. I have done the Basel airport to Zurich journey by bus/train and it's easy and efficient.

The journey will take 1.5-2 hours from Basel airport to Lucerne. The number 50 bus from airport to station takes less than 20 mins, the train Basel SBB to Lucerne 1-1.5 hours depending whether it is direct or connecting. The excellent SBB website makes it easy to plan, even tells you which platforms any changes will arrive at / depart from.
