I would like to improve the specs of my current computer to enable better graphics and speed for game playing.
Here are the details of my computer I have now.
Lenovo All-In-One PC
Windows 10 home
Version - 1511
OS Build - 10586.318
Processor - Intel (R) Pentium (R) CPU G3220T @ 2.60 GHz
Installed RAM - 4.00 GB
System type - 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch - Touch support with 5 touch points.
Here are the details advised by a friend:
Processor - Intel core i5
Graphics card - Nvidia GTX960
RAM - 16GB
1 TB of hard drivespace
Is an update possible or am I looking to buy new?
All help gratefully appreciated.

don't think you can update all in ones (graphics), but I stand to be corrected0

The only upgrade routes on all-in-one computers are the amount of memory, the hard drive and possibly (but rarely) the processor.
For gaming you need a decent graphics card but you aren't going to get one in there unfortunately. With all in ones, you're pretty much stuck with what you've got.0 -
You can't update all in one PC.
AMD RX480 is coming at the end of the month, worth considering if you are going to get new PC0 -
Ok. After some thought I have decided to get a new computer. The one we have is not good enough for the games my son wants to play.
I have some details of a computer which I think might be suitable, could any of you please advise?
Intel 6th gen quad core I5 6600 3.3GHz
MSI GTX 970 ARMOR 2X OC 4GB GDDR5
Samsung 224DB 24x DVD Re-writer-SATA-Black-OEM
WINDOWS 10 for high end devices.
............£ 824.30 (not including monitor)
An example of the games he wants to play are:
Mortal Kombat X, Dead by daylight, Cities skylines, Planet Coaster, Friday 13th, Hitman, Battlefield 4.
I hope all this information helps.
All help much appreciated.0 -
Seems expensive.

As most of those games are 18 rated, surely your son is old enough to get a job and buy his own PC?

As for the upgrade question, All-In_ones are notoriously diffucult to upgrade as you've descovered. For a new PC, you need to get a list of all the games, google them and write down the minimum / recomended specs, use that as a starting point to see what you need and go from there, i know some of the games listed will take a fair hit on the system so deffinatly worth researching.
On a side note, intel are starting to roll out their Kaby Lake CPUs (7th gen) so might be worth hanging on a couple of months to see what impact they have on the market.0 -

Apologies, but I have updated my request. See post 5.0 -

Thanks for that.
Is this a better option than my one?
Not sure how to compare.0 -

Not sure how to compare.
Different types and models of CPU work differently, and when you factor everything else in, it makes it really hard to compare. You can't just rely on speed ratings (unless you're comparing chips of an identical model).
Benchmarking programs are designed to simulate certain functions/uses of a CPU or video card -- for example, mathematical calculations, file transfer, video encoding, 3D video rendering, etc., etc.
You can see how various processors compare in these benchmark tests at sites like the ones below. Not all the sites are explicit about which benchmarking programs they've used to derive the CPU "ratings", but it still gives you a quick idea.

It's also worth looking up processor specs on manufacturers' sites (e.g. Intel). You can see which features particular chips have, and which ones might be particularly beneficial for your particular requirements (if you do a bit of Googling).

Thanks for your help, but judging from my previous post (no.5) could anyone recommend a system that would do the job and maybe have a bit in reserve for future game releases etc.
Basically, I want a good value computer that can play those sort of games.0
