I have a win 7 desktop which is 4.5 years old and has started playing up. I also have a mac book air laptop.
As I use some crafting software which only runs on Windows it is useful for me to have windows as well as mac.
I am looking for recommendations for a windows laptop that will be reliable. in the past I had a bad experience with an HP Pavilion, so I definitely don't want another HP.
What are Lenovo like? I think they used to be IBM.
What brands would you recommend?

See my other thread on problems logging in to my user account. I found from previous experience that once a computer starts to go wrong, it isn't long before it is completely unusable, and I don't want to be in that position again.
It's definitely time to get something new!0 -
What budget are you on?
What programme are you running?
are you willing to pay extra for higher range?
One thing you can consider is go to dell outlet business section and grab a dell latitude laptop. They have 3 years warranty.
BTW, the usual advice for your existing laptop is do a factory reset and wipe everything.
If you don't have the recovery disk/ recovery partition, you can go to microsoft and download windows 10 and using your existing Win 7 serial number.
If you going to get rid of it, no harm to wipe everything out.0 -

I love my thinkpads, currently T41 (12yrs old) and a T420 (5yrs old), but i've owned several more over the years, I think they're really well designed and hugely practical.
BUT I would not touch any Lenovos latest laptops, they've turned them into fake Macbooks, they removed the trackpoint, the keyboard layout is terrible and the trackpad is so big that it gets in the way when typing (this is actually infuriating).
It's like they've forgotten why people buy Thinkpads (to have a solid, reliable and practical machine). They'll never appeal to Macbook owners, because they don't have an Apple logo and they're fast losing customers like me who were die hard Thinkpad fans.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

^^^ agreed, Thinkpads were the dog's danglies of laptops, when they were still IBM. Sooo easy to work on, and pretty much bulletproof

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

A glitch like that can happen on any PC, and will probably never return, it doesn't justify a replacement machine.
The best way of preventing the data loss/machine won't start or login panic, is to backup to a big blobDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0 -

Thank goodness they did, I absolutely hated it when I had a Thinkpad, I found it practically impossible to use and generally had a mouse plugged in so I didn't have to try. I'm writing on a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro now and I'm pretty happy with it, and the trackpad is fine, although it turns out that I almost never use the non-laptop features so the additional cost was a bit of a waste of money really.0
