We had similar issues with DWH - made it so difficult until we decided to pull out as we had no confidence in the information being sent over and didn't fancy handing over £500k when they couldn't even tell us simple information we'd requested
We're now looking at older houses too which feel so much better made when you walk in - however, most of these are on the main B road through the town, which we don't like - with limited houses I fully sympathise, it's hard work
We're also trying to recover some costs, but I feel it's better to focus our energy on finding the right house. In 10 years time you'll still remember the house you're in, you'll have forgotten about the £5k you wasted. If it comes to it, negotiate £5k off the new house you buy to make yourself feel better
Good luck!0 -
It really is crazy what they can get away with.
I do not know why there is not an ombudsman for developers. There seems to be one for most other things.0 -

To be honest we are starting to look at older houses now. It's just finding the right one that ticks all the boxes, or at least has the potential to. I am sure we will find something, whether that be tomorrow, or 1 year down the line, we are not sure!0 -

There's a financial ombudsman - because people have to buy financial services.
There's an energy ombudsman - because people have to buy energy.
(etc etc)
People do not have to buy new-build houses.0 -
Simple...

There is an ombudsman for estate agents... I do not see your logic, in that there should only be an ombudsman for things people have to buy?0 -

It's very simple - if you don't like the way new-build properties are marketed and sold, then don't buy a new-build property. There are plenty of other options.0 -
People have to live somewhere, so EAs more-or-less have to be dealt with, whether you're buying new-build, buying normal properties, or renting.

Likewise, if you do not like my complaint or the things I post on this forum, do not read them or comment on them?
My point was not that people have to deal with estate agents. I was saying why are ombudsmen only required for services that people NEED to buy?
The definition of an ombudsman is to look independently into complaints. Nowhere does it state that it can only be for services people NEED to buy or use.0 -

So only replies that agree with you are welcome?0 -

My son viewed a Lagan Homes housing site also in Corby and agreed to buy one the day they went to sign for it they had a phone call saying sorry the price has gone up 10 grand! These building firms are getting away with blue murder. In Scotland they are not allowed to do stuff like that so why aren't our government putting laws in place to stop them ripping people off?
Have you tried the MP for Corby Dawn? We wrote to him and he has written to the CEO of Barratt Homes asking him to investigate our case and provide his findings as soon as possible.0
