O/S Daily Thread for Saturday 11th June

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
The sleep fairy seems to have deserted me again.
Hubby is working for a few hours this morning, I shall go to the bakers once I've dropped him at work.
We don't have any DGC staying this week as hubby's shifts made it too late a bed time for them.
Hubby does seem a little better now, lets hope it continues, and nothing else happens to upset his equilibrium.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

    Morning everyone.

The birds woke me up, they sit on the telephone wire which comes into the house at our bedroom so they're very close. And I've got the window open.

This morning I'm taking my car across to a bloke who will, I hope, be able to polish out the scratches for me. These are from driving the long and very narrow diversion home the other week.

Yesterday I ordered a cordless vacuum for downstairs. :o The upstairs Miele is really good but I can't be carting it up and down the stairs. Last year I bought a cheapo Vax for downstairs which lives in the back barn but I'm finding it difficult to use, especially in the good weather when the carpet needs vacuuming every day. It's heavy but yet falls over very easily and is difficult to drag around. Anyway, I ordered the full size Gtech as I'm very impressed with the little handheld one. Ordered it in the early afternoon and got an email two hours later saying it'll be delivered on Tuesday. :T

There's no shopping to be done, not enough washing for even a half load so it's back to the pile on the guest bed. The number of unused jackets I have is embarrassing so some will have to go to a CS.

Weather is iffy with an even iffier forecast. I've got loads of books to read to help me get through the summer of football.

I hope everyone has a good Saturday.

Good morning, thank you for starting us off HuH.

I am working today, we all have to staff an annual event which we put on for the families who use our service. It is always a good day but very tiring. So I got a lot if stuff done yesterday and the only real job I have to do is the bathroom today. You will be shocked to know that I spent hours and hours ironing.

Speky I am glad things went well, no shame in being upset. You loved your gran and it is very sad to say goodbye.

It is dull and muggy here, a shame as our event encompasses some outdoor activities but we have managed indoors when we've needed to. I hoped that the spectacular storm a few days ago would clear the air for a bit of fresher weather but I was wrong, wouldn't make much of a meteorologist!

Off in search of toast now hope everyone has a good day

  • Morning all and - aaargh - just lost a post somewhere!!

A cloudy start but no rain. We've had odd spells of drizzle but the gardens still await a good drenching.

Yesterday's funeral was as sad as we expected. Her DH's choice of tracks to be played were so very moving. The Air that I Breathe (The Hollies) although I have heard it many many times I have never listened to it with the words in front of me. Oh so poignant and apt. At the end it was Empty Rooms (Gary Moore) and again so very touching. Her mum (well in her 90's) was there in her wheelchair but she seemed oblivious to what was going on, bless her. Perhaps just as well.

Just as we were getting ready for yesterday's funeral we got a message that SIL's dad had died through the night. A lovely old chap (90 a couple of weeks ago) who always had a smile on his face. So that will be yet another funeral to attend. The older we get, the more we seem to have to go to.

We are going over to the caravan later for a few days. We need to be back Wednesday for the DGDs and two nights of sleepovers and subsequent school runs. Before we set off I must give a good dust and vac round everywhere, as it's been so neglected this week with one thing and another. (Which reminds me to mention GERS, I am sick of the Hoover we got to replace the Dyson and I too have been eyeing up the GTech. So let me know how you like it please!)

Well must get cracking as much to be done before I can start thinking of packing a few clothes and deciding what food to take with us. If we are out and about we'll find somewhere nice to eat but if we are staying put we'll need the makings of a few meals. Not forgetting a couple of bottles of wine too.

Have a nice weekend all and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care all xx

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH and myself up enjoying first cuppas of the day, boys still in their pits.

Now light, raining steadily, very wet with puddles underfoot, so rain started sometime during the night, looks set for day.

DH says his knee is feeling much better this morning - which is very often what happens when rain is forecast then arrives. He can generally give an accurate forecast when we're going to get rain!

I went into town yesterday and visited the building society so that's one less job that I need to do on Monday in my lunch break. We were very lazy yesterday we didn't really do anything else, and DS1 went for a haircut straight after work then picked up pizzas and chips for dinner, so I did very little - was lovely though. Today I must tackle the pile of ironing and make the base for the cheesecake ready for tomorrow, I'll make up the fruit kebabs tomorrow morning. As we didn't eat food from the fridge last night and we'll be eating at mum's tomorrow - I'll be sorting what we'll be eating today - I'd bought food to leave for the boys to cook and eat and food that DH and I would cook and eat whilst away - somehow I need to decide what I can make out of it that's enough for us all, as food bought was based on 2 x 2 portions.

I did got quite a few admin jobs done on the pc and organise some activities for our holiday - which is approaching fast! We have the annual yard sale next weekend which we try to take part in, so today and tomorrow will be spent getting items together to put in the sale, we don't make loads of money generally but are able to get rid of items that are no longer of use to us, last year within the first hour we'd sold a roof box that then didn't fit our car and several other big items as well as some smaller, it's no real hassle to take part it's all done from the front of our house and I'm able to put up the sun parasol if it's really hot for some shade.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning :hello:

Scampi made friends with a greyhound :j This is huge deal, he was terrified of them and did whatever he could to get away :D

My tomato plants have flowers, and I have little cucumbers and green strawberries. It felt like nothing was going to happen in the garden so I'm pleased about this – I'm going to take photos :D

It finally rained at 5pm yesterday, I was so happy, lol. It didn't last long but was enough to cool everything down. I didn't get much housework done yesterday, I ended up sorting food and making lots of potato salad and coleslaw. It's raining lightly now and is quite cool so after our walk I'll tie up the plants in the greenhouse then get on with the housework.

Just had a text from Dad, telling me how brilliant NCIS was :D I usually watch it on saturday lunchtimes when I'm by myself but there are three of us here today. I'm going to insist on complete silence while I watch it and they will be locked out of the room if they don't comply.

Good morning chums, bit overcast but quite warm today.Good day yesterday with lots of laughter and discussions about historical bandits. The Ned Kelly one especially.

My tutor had made me a beautiful coffee and walnut cake bless her so tonight when I'm at DDs looking after the boys 'we shall have cake' :):):)

I stopped off at the new poundland on the way home to get some 'goodies' for tonight as its 'naughty night with Nanna' DD and my son-in-law are going off up to norwich tonight They have an overnight stay and dinner in Norwich then pick up and drive DGS Ben home tomorrow :):):)

Whilst in Poundland I spotted ten geraniums for £2.00 which were a good bargain and brought them home and planted up in pots on the patio. While planting them up the young couple next door were having a BBQ and young Scarlett stuck her head over the fence and said would you like a burger as Jamie is cooking.I said oh lovely thank you very much' so I was pleased to have such a nice burger cooked for me by him.She handed it over and I soon tucked into it with a plate of salad.

They are such a nice young couple and yesterday was their little girl layla's fifth birthday and she was showing me all her presents.Apparently they are having a marquee in the garden as half of her class is coming on Sunday afternoon and Scarlett apologised for any noise. But I told her I'm not bothered buy children having a good time and they can be as noisy as they want to be :) I shall be away at DDs anyway looking after three of my DGS for the day:):):) But even if I wasn't I love to hear kids having a good time .The little girls are lovely children and the whole family are delightful.I am so lucky having such nice neighbours now .

No going out today until I go to DDs around five thirty, so I shall be finishing off my ironing and probably watching Versailles on catch-up tv.

Hope you all have a good weekend what ever you are doing

    Cheers chums

Roll on tomorrow as our Ben will be home from Uni :):):)

    Morning everyone,

Hester - thanks for starting us off
Speky - glad it went well, no shame in crying for a much loved Gran. I hope you have a lovely time at the wedding today.
nmlc - I too can predict the weather - I get headaches when the pressure is low - DH says I am a human barometer :)
RR - poor doggy, not nice for you or her :(
JackieO - have a great time with the DGS's :D
TA - I too have certain songs that have been played at funerals that now set me off when I hear them - Imagine by John Lennon being one - I only need to hear the intro....

I had an extremely long and manic day at the church yesterday. We had messy church to set up and run plus this weekend we have a fundraising art exhibition on which I'm involved with. Ended up doing 9am-8pm with an hours lunch. When you only do 10 hours a week, this is really challenging! Also managed to fall up the stairs in Tesco and damage my toenail (in front of a crowd too) when rushing over there for supplies :(

I have a slight headache due to DH giving me beer to drink when I got home - naughty man. Out in London today having lunch with ex work colleagues who I see once a year. Should be good albeit expensive as London usually is! The school uniform to wash before I go, so I can iron it tomorrow,

Hope you all have a lovely day.

    Morning All

I had a long lie! Woke about 6, turned over and slept till after 8. The ironing is done but that's about it.

Went for a swim after work which I thoroughly enjoyed but I haven't been for months so it was a bit tough. Will go for a walk down to the car boot (or flea market as it's called) in a while and stop at Aldi on the way home for a couple of bits.

The weather is a bit iffy so the washing can wait.

Speky, it's good to cry. TA, sorry you have another funeral to attend.
tru - Scampi has come on so much just lately, well done to you. RR, hope Evie is ok.
    Have a good holiday Lainey!
Hugs to those in need. LW, are you back from your hols yet?

Have a good weekend. Take care. XX
