Throw it all in, bring up to pressure and test after half the time you usually boil for

That's how I work mine, which is a tad more modern then yours. It usually works at around twice the speed of normal simmering

Tbh if I was making soup with a veg mix, I'd saute for a wee while in butter and herbs ( really gets the flavour going) Then I'd add the boiling water, stock cube and bring to pressure,,simmer away for 20 mins and the veg should be tender. If not, bring it back up for another 10 mins

OH pressure cooks a lot as we both work and he enjoys curries and things that taste better after a long cook so we get best of both worlds.

Cheap cuts of meat taste really good in a pressure cooker, last night we had oxtail stew and the meat was falling off the bones after 50 minutes.

The meat was so tender :) Much better than frying the chops or grilling them :)

One other thing to remember if making soup in it, ot even caseroles and stews. Because it cooks so much more quickly, less water evaporates during the cooking process so experiment with using slightly less liquid than you would do if you were making soup in an ordinary saucepan, or cooking a caserole in an oven for a couple of hours.

I have no idea how to use but I do remember my mum having one and it getting used quite regularly.

(off to have a looksie on how to use)

My mum had two, during my childhood and the things terrified me, as I was sure that one day they would explode. I remember that she used them to cook beetroot (which smelled awful ) ,ham hocks and all the vegetables (with three compartments to keep varieties separate).
