Renewing tax credits and SMP

I've just remembered I'm yet to renew my tax credits, totally forgot.
However I'm sure someone said about deducting £100 per week for SMP. So am I best calling them to renew so they can do this or can I simply just deduct the £3900 myself from overall income?
Hope this make sense.

Just deduct it yourself when you put in the renewal, they'll quite possibly already know as the employer should tell them iirc.0

My employer totally messed up my pay stupid place. I need to do a self assesment to for the little bit of money I make at home so will deduct myself. Thanks!PAYDBX2017 #077 - £5408.51/£5532.04N - £4531.62/£4655.15 (plus interest monthly)

I personally would call so you can explain why your figure won't match theirs.0

They just get the taxable pay, correct, but they also seem to know when you've been paid SMP. It must trigger something on the HMRC system.0 -

The tax office may know if it's noted correctly on the RTI return. However this isn't always passed to tax credits (or hasn't been in previous years). Either way, you still need to do it yourself as they wont know how many weeks you were on SMP.0 -
Once I've done my self assessment I'll ring them with new figures.PAYDBX2017 #077 - £5408.51/£5532.04N - £4531.62/£4655.15 (plus interest monthly)
