I'm still confused if I should be registered for VAT? Could MSE forum users please understand I have not got a business and work from there? Thank you.

Thanks for giving me an awesome answer, Rappa. And the rest of you, a bit more honesty and a bit more listening to the problem? Thanks, anyway.

You're being a typical mse smart Alec and expecting the op tto know theaanswerto ttheir question and going round in circles.

It's obvious that op is ill informed about vat. The right answer is that they probably don't need to charge vat because theyarent registered and don'tmeet tthe threshold. Very few self employed people will meet vat threshold.

Also how do you do self assessment/self employed returns without notifying hmrc of your situation? You will have access to self assessment portal through hmrc after you inform them you're self employed

..It's obvious that op is ill informed about vat. ....

That is true. It would also be true that the OP only asked about VAT. However neither is really the issue.

    The important issue is this....

The most important thing for the OP to understand is that THEY HAVE GOT A BUSINESS and to work from there. VAT is not going to be the only thing they struggle with if they fail to grasp that simple point.

Either you can answer questions or you can't. If I was that smart I wouldn't need financial advice, would I? Or at least I'd be able to pay for it.

    Thanks for the consultation. :silenced:

It is not a very sensible strategy to be abusive to people who take the time and trouble to respond to your thread.

A question often implies something not directly asked. Peripheral matters will often be referred to and most people find broader replies very helpful.
