trouble returning a mattress to Argos

Imagine the OP's reaction if she had discovered that the mattress sent to her had been previously returned as "unsuitable" having been removed from it's wrapper and used.
The only advice I can give the OP is to go to a store prior to purchase in the future, the display mattresses there can be "tried" prior to purchase and are not then sold on to some unsuspecting customer.0 -
If you went to a bed shop, you would lay on the mattresses to try them. You wouldn't just examine them. And how can you lay on a mattress with plastic wrapping which has air bubbles in, to try it?
Of course I would! Actually, hubby and I had a good old bounce on the mattress in Benson for Beds, obviously being very careful to keep our feet on the shoe protectors.
Ohhhhh it was comfortable. So we bought it!
But buying from a bed shop you often pay a premium, because you have the chance to test them.
Our next mattress we bought online, and it is not as good as the first one, but it is ok. We did lie on it with the wrapper on and made the best assessment we could.
The shop will not know that you have not slept on it. As far as they are concerned, it might have been used so not returnable.
As for putting a sheet on the bed, there are many bodily fluids that can seep through a sheet... Would you be happy buying a mattress that might have someone elses bodily fluids on??Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
If you try out a mattress in abed shop do they take that mattress off the bed and wrap it for you to buy........
or do they get an unopened one from stock.0 -
In many cases the answer is neither ... they order the mattress for you. (Shops can usually only keep limited stock).0

Take a look at this link http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3y9V3mSGKBhbGqCYnGj0xtP/online-shopping-your-rights
If you want to go to Argos and quote an out of date article referencing legislation that has been superseded then go ahead, but expect to receive a firm No in response.0 -
Having had bed bugs (not from a mattress) I'd never ever expect to return an opened mattress or buy one. You only have this problem once!
However, I'd try the CAB or Trading Standards to query whether you can still return it. If they say you can, ask for the regulation that underlies this so you can quote it at Argos.0 -

But they won't will they, because Shaun has already given the relevant legislation in post #3.0 -

The OP was already told this by an obviously exasperated Argos employee before this thread was even posted!0
