Whoever makes such ai will monetize and ration the use of said ai for personal gain.

Remember alot of human happiness is not linked to absolute wealth but to relative wealth when comparing ones self to others.

Ai will be a tool with which to leverage commercial advantage

If it happens and a lot of very good scientists and engineers believe it will this century then what you speak of will be nothing. This machine once it becomes human intelligence rapidly becomes super intelligence

So smart that we can't even fathom what it will know or do. Think of humans v ants only the difference in intelligence and ability would be much greater.

There are many ideas of how things might go down but two broad ideas is that the intelligence either elevates humans to immortal super intelligence too or its the end for us.

Actually ants are quite intelligent and pretty able given their size Pound for pound they are stronger then us humans.

They will do exactly what they do now; which is what they are programed to do, only more of it and faster.

    You completely misunderstand the issue.

If current trends continue it can't take too long that's the power of the exponential function.

If things continue at the rate of the recent past in 100 years a single computer will have the power of about 1,000 trillion that of today. So using only 0.0001% of its power it could beat all the computers on earth today combined

This is why a lot of scientists don't think it will take hundreds of years. You find smart people predicting tineframes of 20-60 years for AI

?.....so basically we get AI earlier than many think because of exponential growth and then the AI becomes self aware and then what:eek:

it depends on your worldview. If you think humans are special and created by god then you can make the argument and believe that our intelligence is a gift nothing else can or has achieved in the world universe. If you think humans are a collection of atoms with nothing 'heavenly' behind it then there is no reason to think the 1kg of grey matter in your skull is the only way to achieve intelligence.

but there is a problem in that it wont happen until it does and races right past

nobody knows but two main possibilities are that we go extinct like most species or that we are elevated to immortality.

There is no reason to think the human mind can not be replicated or something smarter can never exist if for no other reason than the fact that all human minds are not equal

The human mind has 100-1000 trillion connections. Computer chips are about 10 billion transistors. If the two were equivalent computers still need to improve about 10,000 -100,000 x which would be achieved in about 30 years if things keep progressing like the last 30.

This may be correct in the short term but in the longer term the tech will become available to all.

    2. The fall in EU trade if the UK falls into the North Sea is negligible. 1% of GDP from memory.

Germany's 3rd largest export market though. The UK makes a significant contribution to their current account trade surplus.
