Mostly among oilies and miners I believe (although I don't follow the UK market as closely as I did). There might be a secondary effect on to the banks I guess.0 -

I'm still happier with shares than bonds though, when I sell some property I think that I am going to really struggle to force myself to invest in bonds (which was part of my original plan). I just don't get what the attraction is, apart from achieving diversity, but the low returns looks like a hell of a price to pay. I may not sell as much property as I originally envisaged. Although that said, we are taking another look at commercial property, the attraction would be higher yields and far less management input, versus illiquidity and the danger of voids. I'm trying to see if the void issue could be partly addressed by targeting commercial property that would be suitable for residential redevelopment (i.e. having a plan.

The amount of money you have with no dependents I would encourage you to focus on buying travel, food and experiences rather than wasting it on the optimum investment strategy.

Don't be the richest man in the graveyard
I'm already addressing this right now, but I think that you are confusing spending with investing, they are totally different. Although I intend to spend it, before it is spent, I want to invest it wisely as I still have (statistically) 28 years left.
On the spending front, I am starting, we are viewing a house today (we are looking to seriously upgrade and decided that we deserve a much better home than we currently have). I'm also going on holiday with a friend in July (had enough of my wife's lethargy over holidays). I'm also about to sort out my dog's pet passport so I can start exploring Spain in January (possibly with my wife, but if she doesn't want to go, I'll go anyway), because I have handed my notice in and I am retiring this December (that is now a done deal).Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Easily fixed, I am available for adoption
I'm afraid it is thanks, but no thanks. Unless you are a spaniel (reminds me of that ki-ora advert, where the crow says 'I'll be your dog').Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -

Chuck. Do I see a rift between you and Mrs chuck (holidays alone) - this is also a void I would be willing to fillLeft is never right but I always am.0 -

No it isn't a rift, its just that she doesn't particularly like holidays, which until now has put me off going. But I have now realised that I need to start exploring Spain (although the July holiday is actually to the Isle of Man). I want to spend at least 3 months a year in Spain, I don't mind the cold so much in the winter, but I really dislike the rain. The two places that I want to explore first are the Tabernas desert (just North of Almeria) and the Costa Del La Luz area (Cadiz/Seville, although I will be more in the rural areas, not the cities).Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0
