hello all ,I'm new to the forum and hope someone can help me .I became unemployed the end of January 2016 due to health but my wife still works bringing in £15,000 p/yr before stoppages .We have tried to claim working tax credit and child tax credit and today had a letter to say we are entitled to a big fat 0 .Our income 2015 -2016 was about £50,000 ,is this the reason why we aren't entitled to anything ?

tax credits will initially use the previous years income for calculation. Now you have received an award you can call and give them an estimate of this years income for recalculation
If you are not planning on working this tax year, this estimate would be your wifes income plus any other relevant income. They will then add the £2.5k disregard on the the figure and use that for calculation
If you exceed this amount at the end of the tax year you will have an overpayment so if there is a likelihood of additional income, bonuses etc you would be best overestimate0 -
thank you ,so I would be entitled to it ? I also have 2 children 9 and 70

Enter the figures into the Gov.uk tax credit calculator. Put in THIS tax years income ( but add on £2.5k ) so you get an accurate figure. You will get something if your wife works the required number of hours ( cant remember what on a joint claim ) and she only earns £15k per yearStuck on the carousel in Disneyland's Fantasyland
