No longer want to move

We are retired and live in a part of the country with low house prices and wanted to move nearer to our family who live in a more expensive area. So we signed with the EA on May 27th and to our surprise we had a good offer after the first viewing, which we have not accepted.

I now realize at the 11th hour that I do not want to leave the house and the area.Perhaps showing people round has brought home to me that I feel this way. Also we have begun to realize how much more expensive houses similar to ours cost in the area we want to move to.

So a bit of a mess of my own making!I have looked at the contract and there is no mention of incurring a fee. However I think it would be fair to pay for their expenses so far (board,Rightmove, flier, etc)

Does this happen often or is it rare? I feel so foolish. What reaction can we expect from the EA

It's a risk of doing business if you are an estate agent. You don't have to pay for anything if you pull out at this stage.

It happens all the time. If the contract doesn't specify that you pay anything if you withdraw your property then you're not obliged to, if you feel morally bound to then decide on a suitable amount. If at some point in the future you decide again to sell I would go with another EA as this one may not be that keen on offering you a good service, but make sure this time you really do want to move.
