'Reasonable Length of Time'?

Hello
I bought a stupidly expensive Sonicare toothbrush just over 2 years ago. Last week, it gave up the ghost (battery not charging, and not replaceable). Philipps refuse to do anything outside their 2-year warranty period. I think that a £150 (I know, I know.... more money than sense!) toothbrush should last far longer than this, so my question is this: is it worth me arguing this out with Philipps (has anyone succeeded - would be great to quote any other examples back to them) or am I wasting my time on this one?
thank
David

2 years sound about right as a minimum. 4 years might be average and therefore some will last for 8 or more years so the average is 4 years.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

You are trying to deal with the wrong people.
The manufacturer owes you nothing beyond that specified in their warranty.
If the warranty has expired, then so has your right to anything from the manufacturer.
However, you have a statutory right to seek a remedy from whoever sold the thing to you for up to six years following the sale. Can we assume you didn't buy the toothbrush direct from Philips?
You should read MSE's Consumer Rights guide - there's a link at the top of this page just under your thread title - where this is explained.
Not quite your scenario, but here is a short extract from that guide:Know who's responsible
When returning items, beware shops trying the oldest trick in the book: saying they're not responsible for the shoddy goods and you must call the manufacturer. This is total nonsense!
If a company fobs you off by saying “go to the maker instead”, it's wrong. It's the retailer's job to sort it.
It doesn't matter if it's an iPod from a high street shop or a designer frock from a department store. If something's broken, torn, ripped or faulty, the seller has a legal duty to put it right as your contract is with it.0 -
Thanks - I bought from Amazon, which immediately makes me think I'll be on a hiding to nothing on this one, unless anyone has had good experiences with them.0

Funny you should ask that! Similar thread title to yours and also regarding Amazon.
Might be worth a read.

Did you run down the battery completely at least once a year? I do this on my Braun and it's lasted 5 years so far.You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.
