Japanese Knotweed on new build property

Hi,
I am posting to see if anyone knows the rules in the following case:
A new build estate is cleared of knotweed, buyer buys property and 18 months later sees knotweed growing behind a wall but still in the boundary of property. This is located at end of garden approx 12 metres from house. Just one plant growing.
Building company (one of the big ones) come round with landscaper who identifies it and says will treat it.
My question is: as I am guessing this has to be reported if the seller comes to sell then what does the seller need to get from the developer? In a legal sense.
Thanks for any help.

If they remove it and it doesn't reappear for 2 years then you can answer No to the question. If you've got Knotweed it will have to be removed before you exchange contracts. The property could be unmortgageable with it there. You'll have to declare any treatment contracts in place to remove it but once it's gone you'll be fine.kernowkarmann wrote: »Hi,

If it within 7 metres of the building that's when you've got a serious problem so keep on top of it to prevent it spreading further.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I would be more worried it is on other properties and they have not noticed.0

A suggestion for you. Keep track of all communication and interaction that you have with the builders from this point onwards. You'll never know when you may need to refer to it.We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
