Your suggestion at post 5 and what the OP reported he or she did at post 8 both navigate to the same "Change your language preferences" settings.

I had a similar problem years ago keyboard reported UK but was actually US. I think if I remember I changed it to US and rebooted then changed it back to UK and rebooted again which sorted it out. Worth a try, good luck.

OK I followed those instructions to the T and this is what I found. There were two boxes, the box with United Kingdom was highlighted but they box with US was not highlighted.
    tHis is what I saw.

English (united Kingdom) Windows display language, available for download keyboard layout: United Kingdom Date., time, and number formatting,

English (United States) Windows Display Language : Enabled Keyboard Layout : US

Try typing shift 2 (the 2 on the top row).

Well that sounds to me like US is enabled, which ties in with what you are experiencing. Can you delete the US entry? Mine only has a UK one.

Remove is greyed out on the US option so cant delete it.

The uk one says @download and install language pack@... Ohh number 2 is the @ symbol now when pressing shift.

Yes, that's because the US keyboard is installed. You might need to download the UK pack to see if that allows UK keyboard to be selected as the default.

I have the same problem on some sites but not all. I'm windows 10 too, it can be very annoying. Seems OK on this site. I changed it to UK and thought it would be OK. It seems strange that it's not every site.

I recently bought a new wireless keyboard and it's exactly the same.

At a guess it'll be because you didn't have Windows 10 for over 2 years, it's something that happened when you updated from your previous OS. Anyway, glad to hear it's working now.
