Sky have charged me twice for months and won't give me refund.

I've been with Sky for almost a year, and just recently I checked my savings balance and saw that they'd not only been taking Direct Debit from my current account, but also the same amount from my savings.

They have taken over £500 more than they should have, but after calling them they say they won't refund me the money, they will only give it to me as credit to spend with Sky.

They say it's in the terms they can do this for over payments, but they've taken money twice each time for months!

I should have checked my savings account statement sooner, but I haven't as I only pay money into this and never do any transactions, I think my partner must have given them my savings details right at the beginning.

Is there anything I can do to get a refund out of them as £500 is a lot of money.

Maybe get in contact with your bank see if they can help out.

I'm not sure that there is a lot you can do since you agreed to it initially.

Though it may fall under an unfair contract law since there's nothing to stop sky billing you £100 and then giving you back £100 to spend at sky (so ultimately the money would end up with them anyway)

I'm not clear, was it your mistake or Sky's.? Did you sign two direct debits or something?

If it's provably Sky's fault, contact your bank and reclaim the excess monies under the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme.

Why and how have you given Sky the ability to charge two different accounts?

Regardless, I would complain in writing to Sky and request that the money be refunded direct to your savings account (with any interest you have lost as a consequence).

As you say, £500 is a large lump sum.

Make a point of saying you'll cancel at the end of the minimum term if they won't comply, then they'll have to refund AND lose your custom...

I think the problem is Sky's. I think what happened is I was signed up to Sky initially on my savings account but cancelled that and set it up with my current account, however even after cancelling they still kept charging my savings. Even after calling them last month and telling them they were taking money from my savings account, they said sorry and said it wouldn't happen again, but 2 weeks later they took another £100 from my account.

I've checked and actually there's not a direct debit set up on the savings account, so they are taking the money through my debit card.

So make a written complaint to them, as above, explaining these circumstances..

This really shouldn't have went on this long or resulted in them accumulating so much credit though.

For example they send you a bill for £75. They take payment by debit card and direct debit totalling £150. That pays your bill and should also result in your account being in £75 credit the following month (meaning if your bill is £75 or less, no payment is taken and if its more, then only the difference should have been taken).

Sounds like more than one things went wrong on their end!

[STRIKE]What savings account allows you to have a direct debit set up against it?

Anyway, if Sky won't play ball immediately the simple answer is to invoke the DD guarantee with your bank to have all the payments from the savings account refunded since the date that the payments started to be taken from the current account. Sky can't really contest it as they have the money that you are contracted to pay for their service.[/STRIKE]

Ah, just read what you've said in post #6, so the DD guarantee is no use. It's a CPA, so a bit trickier to deal with, although there's still a chance that a complaint to your bank will work. And my question above now needs to be rewritten as which savings account has a debit card associated with it?

OP has clarified that it's a savings account with a "debit card" associated with it, not a direct debit. That said, I've never had a savings account with a debit card either.

If the other set of payments were direct debit then OP can use the guarantee on those.
