You are stupid if you buy a house now and you're under 40 (or wait for £60k - £100k)

To OP, this very bill was defeated in the House of Lords last month.
There bound to be some serious amendments if the government wants to pass the bill and no one knows what the end result will be and how long it will actually take to materialize
You are wrong. The bill was amended then finally approved by The HoL and was passed into law in May.0 -

Yes the bill was passed but the consultation on Starter Homes only ended a couple of weeks ago. The bill laid out the legal framework, not the detail. There are all sorts of ideas floating about of what might be in the detail according to what I've read including things like the age limit being removed for veterans, resale not being allowed for 8 years except to other FTBs at the same discount.
This policy was announced in 2014 and there probably wont be any houses until well into next year at the earliest. Developers around here already only offer H2B on the non-prime plots and I reckon that it will be easy to guess off plan which will be the starter homes on a site.
If I were a FTB I'd be keeping it in mind, but with current house price rises and the lottery of who will get the first starter homes, I'm not convinced I'd hold out!0 -

the OP is silly. new builds are a rip off 20-30% over inflated. secondly why wait 18 months? not to mention it may not even happen. if you are under 40 and want to buy a home my advice is mever buy a new build even with apparent discoutns as you WILL still be overpaying. buy an old build in a good area. location is key as this will drive future saleability/liquidity and how much a property holds its value.0
